I spoke to the BBC today. They are still visiting possible villages, and hope to make a decision on which to use for their program either just before or just after Christmas. They will write to all villagers with their decision at that point.
Isn't it amazing how quickly Christmas comes round! The only thing is that as we grow older Christmas seems to lose a little bit of the magic that it once had. Some how the awe and wonder of Christmas can become replaced by the trudge through the endless preparations for this wonderful day. If we aren't down at the Metro centre getting caught in traffic, we are at the supermarket making sure that we have everything for a turkey dinner on Christmas Day.
But yet in the midst of all the preparations there are so many wonderful stories that are based around Christmas, and all that happens at Christmas. One story which for me captures much of the wonder of Christmas is the story of Mr Scrooge and Bob Cratchit. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol tells the story of a man who sees no wonder and awe in Christmas, but considers Christmas to be "humbug". But through the visits that were made to him by Ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present and Christmas's to come he learns once more the wonder that Christmas can hold as we share and celebrate this wonderful season together.
Christmas is about friendship, about family, about celebration. Basically Christmas is about love. For on Christmas day love came down, as the God of love was born among us. So may Julia and I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas, and every blessing for the New Year.
God Bless
Edward Butlin
At an Awards Presentation Ceremony held on 27th October at the Council Chambers in Alnwick, Marion Guiry and Norman Dunn, were presented with Certificates of Commendation by Councillor Trevor Thorne, the Chairman of Alnwick District Council.
Marion and Norman received their awards in recognition of their significant involvement and contribution to the community in particular to Glanton and on a wider front to Alnwick District.
Don't forget, MI5 - is a men's group which meet every 1st Wednesday of the month, in the back room of the Queen's Head at 7.30 p.m.
Please could every one be careful in relation to disposing of rubbish: 8 black bin bags were picked up yesterday floating around the village. They do not decompose and will cause injury to any stock that eat them.
