Alnwick District Council have changed their policy on grass cutting in light of an accident elsewhere and costs. The Parish Council are concerned the effect this will have on the village and have therefore arranged a meeting with the District Council to ensure the standards of service expected are maintained by the District Council.
Our village has close links with Trafalgar through the connections with the family of Admiral Collingwood. We have a village tradition in marking memorable events in our history and the Parish Council are keen to continue that tradition. We do have funds available from the millennium projects therefore we are well placed to make a modest contribution to any ideas that come forward.
There will be a public meeting at 7:00 on 17th August 2005 in the Memorial Hall. Come along with your ideas on how we can mark Trafalgar Day, the more ideas the better. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
We were informed that a number of signs had been ripped off electricity pole and lampposts in the village. Those signs have been put there for a purpose please do not needlessly damage or remove them.

On 8th September Bridget Winstanley will give an illustrated talk at the Whittingham Memorial Institute on "The last two Alexander Brownes at Callaly Castle" at 7.30p.m. This will continue the story of the Browne family that was told in the June issue of Records and Recollections, the newsletter of the Society. The talk will give a picture of lives of wealth and privilege at Callaly Castle, as lived by Aleck Browne, his first wife Edith and his son Alexander Simon. It will also take in the lives of his mother Mary Isobel and her second husband Sir Raleigh Grey. This will require a brief diversion into activities on the borders of the Transvaal in the closing decade of the 19th century and a filibustering adventure known to posterity as the Jameson Raid.
On 13th October Alan Fendley will give a talk on Northumbrian battles, and on 10th November, Roger Miket will talk about early Anglo-Saxon settlements in North Northumbria.
