The Parish Council would like to express their thanks to Chris Livsey, Gill Dunn, Margaret Drummond, Chris and Richard Sharp for all the work they put in to the successful event. Thanks also to everyone else who helped on the day. A special thanks to the younger members of our community who worked all afternoon to make the Hall look festive and truly nautical to mark the event.
It has been brought to the attention of some members of the Parish Council that the "improvements" to the water supply carried out in the village has caused some problems for individual households. Although this was not work done through the Parish Council if there are still problems we could co-ordinate information and try and resolve this with the appropriate authorities. This relates to problems in your house caused by the increase of pressure or problems with the repair of the roads. If you do wish to bring any problems to our attention please contact the Parish Clerk, Linda Lazenby.
6 volunteers (Mike and Joan Mason, Richard and Carol Verrill, Steve and Gail Johnson), within the village have successfully progressed from First Responder to First Person on Scene. Qualified Responders get called out by the Ambulance Service to people who have called 999 for an ambulance. It is expected that Responders will be on scene within minutes and be able to provide life saving first aid. The First Aid equipment carried has expanded and we hope to carry oxygen in the New Year.
The December issue of Records and Recollections were available at the Local History Society meeting on 7 December at Glanton village hall. For those who could not be there, please contact Doreen Carruthers (no. 3 Garden Terrace, Whittingham) to collect your copy. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and New Year. Bridget
Please don't stop reading now, as the village needs volunteers.
Volunteering is surprisingly fulfilling, and ANYONE and EVERYONE are welcome.
No special skills are needed, and you give as much or as little time as you have.
Here are a few of the volunteering opportunities available locally:
Every school governing body is being required to re-constitute its membership following government guidelines. The intention is to bring onto governing bodies those who represent the community in which each school is situated. 'Community Governors' will not normally have any parental interest in their local school, but be able to offer other skills and/or expertise.
If you would be interested in considering becoming a community governor of Whittingham C of E (Controlled) First School, please contact the Headteacher, Mrs. Pauline Molloyon 01665574222 or Revd Mike Catling (Foundation Governor) on 01665 574704 for further details.
The Village Hall urgently requires 4 -5 cheerful bright and sympathetic new committee members to support the ageing and dwindling present committee. (We will also welcome miserable and cantankerous volunteers). Meetings are held occasionally to organise various fundraising events. If more support cannot be found the hall may have to close.
See Pam Bridges or any other committee member for further info.
See Claire Swanson or any other committee member for further info.
