We applied in January for a grant from Awards for All to buy equipment to create and display an archive of local historic photographs and other images. i am pleased to say that we have been awarded the full amount requested, and will now be able to buy a laptop, projector, and the software to put this into action. We will also be acquiring display boards so that we can show our pictures in printed as well as digital form. The award is for just under £2000 and the equipment has now been ordered.
Please keep your eyes and ears open for photographs of our area (up to, say, 1970).
Photographs will be scanned and returned promptly.
The Annual Village meeting has been arranged for Wednesday 16th May 2006 at 7:30. It is your chance to hear what has been happening with the Parish Council and also have your say on what you would like to happen. It is just once a year so please make the effort to let your Parish Council know how they can help you. It is also an opportunity to meet with your new Parish Councillors.
It is that time of year again when we organise the Clean Sweep. The date for the event will be the Tuesday. 22nd May 2007. We try and make this the village spring cleaning day when we ask as many people as possible to clean up their bit of the village. Normally with help from Pat, Marion & John Guiry the rubbish is collected. We also try and arrange that the road sweeper comes on the day or shortly before. It would be great if you could keep an eye out for the sweeper and move your vehicle so there will be less sweeping for everyone to do.
For years there has been speculation about a Village Green in Glanton. Everyone was sure there was one but doubts lingered about exactly where it is. In fact in 1968 our Parish Councillors had registered the Village Green. We have recently had confirmation that it is the small area of grass in front of Coniston House extending to the further edge of the derelict building. Although it may not be very big, al! the rules associated with a Village Green apply to it, so the Parish Council will be further considering the implications of this over the coming months.
Following on from the information in the last newsletter the latest news on the options for the future council structure for Northumberland remains unclear. Both the County and the Districts' proposals have been accepted for further consideration by the Government. There will now be a period of 12 weeks of consultations on both proposals before the Government will make a final decision. We do not know what the consultations will amount to but the Council will ensure the rote of Parish Councils will not be ignored, whatever the new set up looks like, and the community voice is heard.
The Parish and District Council elections will take place in early May when a new Parish Council will take over. I (Norman Dunn) have decided not to stand at these elections therefore will be handing over the compilation of the Parish Council News clement of the newsletter to someone on the new council. It is a time of tremendous opportunities for the parish and I wish the new council well in the challenges that face them. I am really impressed by the enthusiasm and energy shown by all those who helped form the Parish Plan steering group, and it is good to know that the Parish remains as dynamic as ever.
The Wooler Paramedics will be running a basic first aid course in the village hall from 6.45 - 9.45 p.m. on the 17th May 07

Please will you ensure that your dogs are kept on a lead close to any lambing fields, and do not enter any fields which have 'do not enter' signs on them. A dog off the lead next to a hedge can scare a lamb away from its mother.
The Parish Plan Steering Group have been successful in gaining £1.500 from Community Action Northumberland towards producing "Glanton Vision — a Parish Plan". This money will be used to produce the Plan, including holding a number of events over the next 6 months, each aimed at different sections of the community. This will be your opportunity to share with us how you see Glanton Parish develop over the next 5 years. At the moment we still have some gaps in our knowledge about Glanton Parish and its community profile and have taken the decision to produce a Parish Survey. We are encouraging all households and occupants to complete the survey, which should arrive through your letter boxes within the next couple of weeks.
The survey has space for up to six members of a household to give their views. Please encourage everybody in it to do so, including children and young people. This is really important. All responses are anonymous. The Plan is going to be a document that tells organisations such as the local authority what Glanton wants, it will help attract funding and make Glanton a belter place to live and work. Please take the time to complete the survey and thank you for your continued support in making the "vision " come to life.
There is a coffee morning from 10.30 a.m. on Saturday 12th May. Donations of cakes and plants required as well as volunteers to help.
The Glanton Show Committee needs a new treasurer, as this has been a 3 year post, with this year being his last year. If you wish to volunteer please speak to Claire Swanson or Mike Mason.
The final amount raised at our spring coffee morning was £382.32 - so a big thank you to all who gave and came along to buy.
Instead of the usual house-to-house collections we have arranged a concert with the Seahouses Village Choir. It will be held in the Church on Saturday 19th May at 7.30 p.m. Admission is free but we ask for donations and all proceeds will go to the Christian Aid Mission in Bangladesh, which we have been supporting for a number of years. The money is used to provide clean water and maternity care. Make a note of the date and come and give your support.
Garden party at Town Farm on Sunday 15th July at 2.30 pm
