Glanton Vision 'A parish plan'

Thank you to everyone who supported the coffee morning and village 'Discovery Hunt' on 22nd September. Congratulations to the winning team captained by Lesley Frater and runners up captained by Jill Dodds. As well as being a lot of fun with great fish and chips, the teams for the discovery hunt were given disposable cameras to take photos of Glanton to help to illustrate the village plan. These will be on display at our future pre-launch event (date to be announced). The section authors are hard at work on the draft plan. We have extended the Post Office/Shop user survey to Whittingham and Callaly. You may have seen recent publicity about the start of the national Post Office closure plan. We will provide you with a full update on the results of our consultation in the December newsletter and action plan. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the plan so far; please get in touch if you have any questions on the work to date. Contact: Chris Livsey (Tel: 01665 578 459).

Parish Council News
from George Dodds, Chair, Glanton Parish Council

Speeding vehicles through the village are becoming an increasing problem. A number of complaints have been made to the Police. The parish council are looking into whether traffic calming measures can be introduced. This is especially the case on the Glanton to Powburn road where there have been a number of accidents in 2007. Please take care when driving through the village and observe the speed limits.

The Chairman and the Clerk will be meeting with our neighbouring parish councils to discuss forging closer links and how we can work together as a community.

Be Safe - Be Seen !

As the dark winter nights draw in, a plea to walkers, cyclists, dog-owners and horse-riders, please make sure that you can be seen at night. Some village dogs have been spotted wearing the very latest fashion trends- reflective collars, leads and jackets! Please take care, take a torch, wear reflective clothing and make sure that drivers can see you.

Nature Notes

Autumn is now upon us - swallows and martins are on their way south and redwings and fieldfares are starting to appear in our fields and hedgerows. It is good time to see grey partridge as they feed in their coveys on the edge of newly sown fields. Autumn colours in the trees and shrubs have been some of the best for years. These colours are complimented by the large crop of berries, fruits and nuts. As the nights draw in, watch out for barn owls especially on the Glanton to Powburn road. Late evening walks can also reveal vocal tawny owls as the youngsters are told to leave home.
