We have a record of Glanton starting annual games in 1855. 1881 records that the Show and Games were going strong but by 1889, as noted in the Gazette, the show "had been allowed to fall through". A new venture, the Glanton and District Art, Industrial and Loan Exhibition was introduced in 1895 and was probably the forerunner of our village show, as we know it today. The Glanton and District Horticultural and Industrial Society, to give the show committee its "Sunday" name, has been staging the Glanton Show each year since the turn of the century, interrupted only by the war years. The 2001 Show sadly had to be somewhat scaled-down due to the foot and mouth crisis, but was a success nonetheless.
The marquee includes sections for horticulture, cookery and handicrafts and a children's section. In addition there are a sheep show, sheepdog trials, exemption dog show, pony sports & jumping, a five-a-side football competition and children's sports.
We also have some excellent craft stalls and delicious teas and refreshments are available on the day. Entertainment is provided on the show field normally with a surprise visit from an international group attending the Alnwick Music Festival.
